January 2007
30th JanuaryKestrel hunting out front as usual. Windy again after several days of calm. Found a recently built nest on a ledge in an open cave, likely belong to the pair of ravens courting this morning over a windswept headland.
29th January 2 cormorants catching fairly decent sized fish in the bay. Otter back, 11am.
28th January Otter fishing in bay, 10am, for about an hour. Catching something on each dive.
26th January50 plus starlings today!
25th January 3 curlews on castle headland. Starlings on table for first time – approx 15. About 12 geese regularly in Mingary fields now.
16th January
Calm and sunny. “Garden” kestrel mostly hunts
from perches when the weather is calm but in strong winds
hovers on the strong updrafts by the shore, she makes
occasional attempts to take birds feeding in the garden
but all have failed. Great Northern diver in the bay
this morning. Male hen harrier much more visible of
late. 30+ stags on wintering grounds between Corrie
Mhuilin and the village since December, also large
groups by Loch Mudle and in next corrie toward Ardsliginish
during worst weather.
