Wildlife Sightings
Every week we log sightings which are of interest or which have caused excitment. To avoid disturbance, locations are generally not disclosed. If you spot something of interest on the estate, please let us know and we'll post your observations here
February - March 2007
27th March Bright and sunny again. Goldfinches have returned to the garden. The kestrel has been absent for a couple of weeks now and so is either sitting or has moved elsewhere. Buzzards calling loudly throughout the day. Otter tracks on the beach for the second day.
25th March Summertime! Beautifully crisp morning and a clear warm day. Ringed plover displaying on Achateny beach and the sound of snipe at dusk on the moorland. A large group of hinds and last years calves visiting Braehouse park each night. Primroses blooming on sheltered banks.
24th March Swans on Loch Mudle.
27th February Stormy, though not cold in a westerly wind. A pair of golden eagles flew over, west to east. Reported sighting of a pod of orcas in front of Eigg.
26th February Warm and sunny, like a summers day. Tadpoles, bats and a butterfly have all emerged. Birds increasingly territorial, kestrel furiously harassing the buzzards that she has co-existed peacefully with over the winter.
25th February Male harrier spotted on the road to Kilchoan.
16th February Tadpoles in pond,
and masses of frog spawn. About a dozen lapwings in field and a flock
of greenfinches at feeders.
