Getting Here

There are three main routes to travel here by car (two involve crossing the sea, and one entirely by road) and many other more adventurous alternatives. Route descriptions assume that you travel from the South, and pass through Crainlarich, taking the A82 - the most direct route North-West. If you need directions from elsewhere just let us know.

From Crainlarich you travel through lovely south Argyllshire to the village of Tyndrum, an ideal place to refuel and use the facilities. Half a mile later you must choose whether to head directly West and make for the town of Oban, and travel via the Isle of Mull, or continue further North through Glencoe, and journey West along the Ardnamurchan peninsula.

Via Isle of Mull

From Oban you catch a ferry to the Island of Mull, reknown as the “Eagle Island”. After enjoying the beauty of Mull sail from Tobermory to Kilchoan, gateway to the estate from the West.

Via Northerly routes

If you choose to save Mull for a day-trip or the return journey, you will continue North across remote and wild Rannoch moor, and through the dramatic mountains of Glencoe. From here you head toward Fort William, historically the most Westerly outpost of the Roman army.

En route to Fort William you might choose to take a shortcut, and catch the Corran ferry, a small car ferry which transports you across the narrow straights of Loch Linnhe. From here keep heading West, toward Salen.

If you choose the more Northerly route, you will head west from the Fort. This road passes through Glenfinnan where scenes for Harry Potter were filmed and the road meanders through deep rugged glens until Lochailort, where you turn left onto the coast road. The islands of Rum, Eigg, and Muck will appear to the west for a time before you leave them behind, cross the watershed and arrive at the eastern gateway to Ardnamurchan, Salen.

From Salen all roads head West and you follow the lochside through ancient Atlantic oakwoods for a time. Once past the historic castle of Glenborrodale then you have arrived in the heart of Ardnamurchan, and once Ben Hiant is in site it is only a couple of miles to your destination.
